Our story

SuvaiKadal — literally an ocean of taste — began in a Coimbatore kitchen where three generations cooked from memory and nothing was written down. We started recording those measurements, the pinch of asafoetida, the exact minute the tamarind stops smelling raw, and turned them into a collection anyone can cook from.

Our mission

To keep Tamil Nadu's home cooking alive in both Tamil and English, so a grandmother in Karaikudi and a student in Chennai or Toronto can cook the same kuzhambu from the same page. Every recipe is written for a real kitchen — no exotic equipment, no substitutions that break the taste.

Why bilingual

Tamil cooking vocabulary does not translate cleanly. Thalippu is not 'tempering', kai manam has no English equivalent, and a kuzhambu is not a curry. We publish every recipe in both languages side by side so nothing is lost, and you can switch the whole site with one tap.

Chettinad heritage

A large part of our collection comes from Chettinad — Karaikudi, Kanadukathan, Devakottai — where the Chettiar trading families built a spice cuisine unlike anything else in India. Kalpasi, marathi mokku, star anise and freshly pounded masala on an ammi are not optional here; they are the recipe.

Recipes from every corner of Tamil Nadu

Our 2421+ recipes come from the grandmothers of Kongu Nadu, Chettinad, Madurai and Tanjore — 1200 Saivam (vegetarian) and 800 Asaivam (non-vegetarian) dishes, along with everyday tiffin, festival specials, sweets and a proper degree filter coffee. Each region keeps its own hand: Kongu is earthy and coconut-led, Chettinad is bold with kalpasi and pounded masala, Madurai is fiery and street-fed, Tanjore is gentle, ghee-rich temple cooking.

Updated twice a day, never AI-invented

New recipes go up twice a day, every day. Each one is cooked in a real kitchen before it is published, with the ingredients a Tamil household actually keeps — real tamarind, real sesame oil, freshly ground masala. We do not publish AI-invented recipes, and we do not copy text or photographs from other sites.

Original content, no copyright issues

Every recipe text on SuvaiKadal is written by our own team from family notes and kitchen testing. We do not copy text, images or video from other recipe sites.
